What Is Cryotherapy?

Originally invented by doctors as a powerful anti-inflammatory tool, Whole Body Cryotherapy is is the practice of exposing your whole body to very cold air (below -110 °C) for a brief period of time (approx. 2 to 3 minutes) in order to trigger physiological responses in the body.

Cryotherapy Benefits

Cryotherapy is now being recognised as an important restorative treatment for the body and mind. Extreme cold can stimulate temperature receptors in the skin to activate the nervous, immune and endocrine systems, resulting in reduction of pain and inflammation, and improvement in mood, improvements to physique, generally enhancing your overall health and wellbeing

The Body’s Reaction

Release Toxins

During a 2-to-3-minute session at -120-180 C, blood vessels in your skin’s surface and muscle tissue constrict, forcing blood away from the peripheral tissues and toward your core. In the core, the body’s natural filtration system works to remove toxins and inflammatory properties of the blood.

Replenish Oxygen

After exiting the cryosauna, filtered blood flows back to the peripheral tissues. Now, cleaner and enriched with oxygen, nutrients and enzymes – the blood warms and enriches skin and muscles, and range of motion increases.

Renew Energy

Over the next 48 hours, the process of restoration occurs and the body returns to a former and better state or condition with reduced pain and inflammation, and increased energy levels. Recovery times from strenuous workouts and injury are improved and shortened.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does whole body cryotherapy work?

When you enter the cryosauna, the sudden drop in temperature signals the brain to flow the body’s blood supply to the torso to insulate and protect the vital organs, which is why you may feel a pins and needles sensation in your extremities. When you exit thechamber, the blood is pumped vigorously back around the body, which increases the
oxygen (and nutrients) supply and removal of toxins. The cold also triggers the nervous system to release feel- good endorphins, while the body’s natural anti-inflammatory reaction to sub-zero temperatures results in pain reduction.

Is it dangerous?

No, The Float space offers the world’s most advanced cryosauna. The liquid nitrogen that is used as a chilling agent does not come into contact with your skin, and it is the same nitrogen that makes up the air we breathe (actually 78% of it). For added safety, chambers are equipped with an oxygen monitor, to pump additional air into the chamber.

Is there anyone who shouldn't use it?

Anyone who is pregnant, has severe, unmanaged hypertension, deep vein thrombosis, acute or recent myocardial infarction, uncontrolled seizures, fever, Raynaud’s syndrome, cold allergy, acute kidney and urinary tract diseases, open wounds or ulcers, under influence of drugs or alcohol, or is being treated for cancer.

Is it comfortable? how does it feel?

The cold air does not contain any moisture, nor is there any air current, which is why it doesn’t feel shockingly cold. Towards the end of the treatment, you may get a pins and needles sensation, which disappears immediately after the treatment.

I'm claustrophobic; can I still use the cryosauna?

Yes. The cryosauna is open at the top so that your head and neck remain above the chamber, and you can communicate to the trained technician controlling the machine throughout the treatment. (It’s also important to note that our cryosauna door does not lock.

What do I wear during the treatment?

Because of the temperature, all jewellery needs to be removed before entering the cryosauna. Clients are required to wear cotton or wool socks, gloves, underwear, bathing suit bottoms, or sport shorts to protect intimate body parts. All other clothing is removed.

Do I take shower before or after the treatment?

No. It is recommended NOT to shower before the treatment, and it is not necessary to take one after. The treatment is completely dry.

How soon can I expect results?

You’ll feel great right away—after completing your first treatment you will experience the release of endorphins, the body’s natural mood elevator, a lift that will last for several hours. Depending on your physical condition, you may feel immediate relief from joint and muscle pain, improved energy, and increased flexibility that will last for several hours or even days. Changes in skin texture and reduction in cellulite and weight loss will take longer to see results and may require a series of treatments for maximum results. Speak to us to tailor a personalised protocol to achieve maximum benefits.

Is one treatment enough?

While every cryo session is beneficial and you’ll feel immediate results, research has shown that you will experience improved and cumulative benefits with a minimum of 10 sessions, within a two or three week period. (Professional athletes will often have up to three sessions a day to help achieve peak performance). Consult with our cryo team on any particular goals or concerns you have.

Can I catch a cold because of whole body cryotherapy treatment?

No, you can’t. Quite the opposite, the stimulation of the immune system can help decrease the severity and frequency of future cold occurrences.

We Offer A Range Of Passes Depending On Your Health Needs:

While one session will leave you feeing pain free and energised, maximum results are obtained with repeated treatments.
